Yukon Territory
The
Yukon Territory is the westernmost political division of northern Canada; it lies north of the Province of
British Columbia, east of the State of
Alaska, and west of the
NorthwestTerritories | Northwest Territories]. It does not yet have the status of a Province within Canada, and has a population slightly in excess of 30,000.
The
Yukon Territory first became famous during the period of the great
Gold Rushes of the late nineteenth century, when gold was discovered in August 1896 in the
Klondike River region of the territory.
