Siberian Husky Club of America
Founded in 1938, the
Siberian Husky Club of America immediately did two things: it changed the existing
breed standard that had been written by
Julien Hurley and accepted by
A.K.C., and it set about "promoting the breed," largely as an A.K.C.
show dog. Since that time the
S.H.C.A. has behaved much as breed clubs are expected to behave, changing the standard periodically, promoting the
conformation show ring as the way that Siberians ought to be evaluated for breeding, and creating colourful
breed myths that misrepresent or distort the actual history of the
original Siberian sleddog.
