Genetic Diversity
Genetic Diversity is the mark of a healthy animal
species. The entire mechanism of
diploid sexual reproduction, universal among
mammals, is a biological machine for genetic variation and experimentation. In that way animal species can maintain maximum
fitness for survival in the face of
environmental change and competition from other living organisms. In order for
evolutionary response to change and competition to work efficiently, animal populations must have
Genetic Diversity. Without that diversity, the necessary variability cannot occur.
